Last weekend, my husband and I had the pleasure of spending the day at the Omni Resort at Montelucia in Scottsdale. We were long overdue for a date, and have barely spent any time alone since D was born… almost six months ago. The atmosphere of the resort, with colorful stonework and beautiful flowers reminded me of Spain. It was like stepping into another world — one where babies don’t need to be fed every hour, toddlers don’t melt down over the simplest thing, and laundry and dishes don’t exist! ;) We started our morning at the Joya Spa, enjoyed the Joya terrace pool, and finished up our spa day at a poolside restaurant called CENTRO.
When you arrive at Joya Spa, you are greeted by a Joya Journey Coordinator who escorts you up the grand staircase to the Joy of Intention room where you are asked to stop, relax and tune out the outside world. You are instructed to choose from five healing stones to set the tone for your day; Tiger Eye, Blue Lace Agate, Rhodonite, Rose Quartz or Hematite. I chose Rose Quartz (a stone that carries soft, feminine energy of compassion and peace, tenderness and healing, nourishment and comfort) and my husband chose the Tiger Eye (a stone of prosperity and good fortune).
After you pass through Joy of Intention, you reach the room of purification which contains a 55 lb quartz crystal which radiates light in multiple colors- pink, orange, green, blue, purple, and more. It’s absolutely breathtaking. We were asked to place both hands on the crystal and take two deep breaths. This opens up the mind and body to the rest of the day and what life will bring. We were also told that doing this exercise after our massage would bring on immense relaxation.
Couples Massage: Joya Stone Massage
My husband and I recieved couples massages in the Joya Suite, which was so stunning! We thoroughly enjoyed this secluded yet spacious spa hideaway which included a private terrace, day bed, and an outdoor antique hammered copper bathtub.
We both received the Joya Stone Massage. This specialty massage uses smooth, water heated, basalt stones providing deep relaxation and harmony to the body. The therapist used traditional Swedish techniques with their signature Joyambrosia argon oil blend of Spanish citrus, Moroccan mint and a touch of spice to release tight muscles and tension creating a feeling of joy, clarity and blissful relaxation. It was INCREDIBLE. Our therapists were so in tune with what both of our bodies needed. We have both had several massages over the course of our marriage and not one compares to the massages we received at Joya Spa.
The Joya terrace pool features a backdrop of the stunning Camelback Mountains. It is exclusively for spa guests. Food, drinks, and cocktails are served on the terrace as well! After our massages, we enjoyed the breathtaking views and beautiful water before heading to lunch.
Poolside Restaurant: CENTRO
After our luxurious spa day, we dined at CENTRO. The ambiance of the restaurant is gorgeous, with its floor to ceiling windows, sweeping views of Camelback, cozy outdoor space featuring fire pits, and nine-panel media wall, it is the perfect environment for any age. There were families dining, couples cozied up on the couches eating appetizers, and friends laughing and drinking margaritas. The food was superb and our waitress was friendly and prompt!
If you are planning a trip to the Phoenix area, I highly recommend staying in Scottsdale at the Omni Resort. If you are local, you need to pay a visit to Joya Spa and eat at one of the many restaurants at the resort. Your body and mind will thank you!!
