Sisters

My daughters are still very young, two and one. But already, they are the best of friends. They love each other immensely, they watch out for each other, they fight (a lot), they share, they sing together, they can’t function without each other. As they get older, these are my hopes and prayers for their relationship:

Always have a friend in each other. No matter where life takes you, even if you live a million miles apart, I hope that you’ll remain best friends. Remember that a loyal sister is worth a thousand friends.

Always have each other’s backs. Defend each other and fight for each other.

Pray for each other. Your sister will have dark days where she feels like everyone has forgotten about her. Pray that she gets through her hardships and don’t let her face those hardships alone.

Love each other unconditionally. You are both so different. You have similarities, of course, but you are two very different people. Embrace each other’s differences and learn to love them. Love each other unconditionally, no matter what.

Don’t forget to laugh together. Yes, you will fight. It’s inevitable. You’re both terribly strong-headed (it’s a blessing and a curse). But don’t forget to laugh together. Laugh and you will be reminded why you love each other.

Be trustworthy. Your sister is going to trust you with her deepest secrets… keep them. And trust her with yours. There will be times that you need a trustworthy friend, and all your friends have proved to be undependable. Your sister will always be there.
