When should I introduce my children to glassware?

January 26, 2016

Glass and toddlers… Probably the worst combination any parent could imagine. Typically when you give your toddler a “glass of milk,” you’re actually giving them a plastic sippy cup that is spill-proof and unbreakable, to prevent broken glass and the hazards that come with that. What if I told you that transitioning your toddler from a sippy cup to glassware was possible? Thanks to Silikids not only is it possible, but it’s easily achievable!

Silikids is the first mom-founded brand focusing on children’s products made entirely of silicone and glass. In a world of excessive plastic ware, Silikids is making glass kid friendly! The company’s mission is to design safe, modern and practical products offering a new function, while being easy to use and keep clean. With a conscious effort in caring for our planet, Silikids produces products that last and promote reuse. Packaging is minimal and silicone can be recycled at specific recycling centers. Customers can also send their Silikids products back to the company for recycling purposes.

Naturally, I was nervous to give Brooklynn & Harlym glass cups. They are extremely clumsy and break everything they can get their little hands on. Harlym actually dropped (or threw) her cup on the ground several times during dinner, and the silicone protected the glass cup!

In addition to their cups, Silikids also offers silicone spoons. Harlym has struggled with using utensils, she would rather use her hands. But this spoon features a textured handle to stimulate tactile experience and a wide spatula style head making it easier to scoop up food. This easy-to-grip spoon encourages independent eating habits! And sure enough, she used to spoon to eat some of her food! (Makes for one happy mama!) Also, I had to add this funny moment from dinner– Brooklynn told us she wanted to use her spoon to dig treasure!

love this silicone placemat! It easily wipes clean and has pre-sectioned panels that fold easily so you can take it on the go!

So when should you introduce your children to glassware? NOW. I’m so glad I did!

Sounds so great! My son is so eager to use “big kid” cups and utensils. I never know where to buy ones suitable for his age! Would LOVE to try them out. Thank you for the chance!!

Awesome review. Glad to hear it doesn’t break when dropped on the floor. My toddler tends to throw things. Lol.
