My three year old is the pickiest eater in the universe. I swear, it’s going to give me gray hair. Finding food she will eat that’s healthy has been the ultimate task. She could live off of fast food and dessert, but obviously that’s not what I want her for and that’s not what her body needs in order to grow big and strong. A few months ago, I started seeing “food art” all over Pinterest and Instagram. Food art is exactly what is sounds like – food strategically placed to look like animals, movie characters, plants, buildings, etc. I gave it a try with my own kids and it was a huge success. My three year old loves her food to be shaped like animals and my one year old loves her food to be shaped like trees and plants!

I recently discovered a worthy cause called The Great American Milk Drive. Childhood should be filled with playing, learning and growing. But for many children who face hunger, even basic staples like milk – and the nutrients that help power childhood activities – are missing. Now, you can help feed a child – by purchasing certain products, you are helping Feeding America provide nutrient- rich milk to kids and families in need. (You can visit milklife.com/give to learn more.) Having three kids of my own, I often think about those that are less fortunate and don’t have access to basic necessities. It breaks my heart. If there’s ever an opportunity to help and do more, I will take it.

While shopping at our local Walmart, I was able to purchase Lender’s Bagels, Del Monte Fruit Fusion cups, and Great Value 2% milk – three staples for our food art breakfast (that all benefit The Great American Milk Drive)!! The combination of milk, bagels and fruit cups give my kids protein, carbohydrates, vitamin C and more. These three foods are better together, so we use them often!!

How To Make Breakfast Food Art For Kids:

The Great American Milk Drive

how to make food art

I’ve created three EASY food art tutorials that my children love! The Bagel Bear, Ice Cream For Breakfast, and the Banana Tree!

Bagel Bear - Easy Food Art For Breakfast - Kids

Bagel Bear

What you need:

  1. Lender’s Bagels. Lender’s bagels are filling – sustaining kids all morning. Lender’s has a bagel for everyone! Plain, Blueberry and Cinnamon-Raisin flavors are kid-friendly & great for the whole family. For this tutorial, I used plain. (Bagels are great to have in your home anyways, because they are timesaving, easy, tasty and nutritious! You can find these ones in the refrigerated dairy section.)
  2. A banana
  3. Blueberries or small grapes
  4. Del Monte Fruit Fusions. Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions is the only fruit cup product that provides 1 serving of fruits and veggies in a single cup. The veggies are in the juice but you’d never know it! EXACTLY what my picky three year old needs!

Look for specially marked Del Monte Fruit & Veggie Fusions packages on shelf at Walmart for valuable coupons for Del Monte and Lenders products.

What to do:

  1. Place one half of the bagel face down on a plate.
  2. Cut a small piece of banana and place it on the center of the bagel.
  3. Place three blueberries on the bagel for the eyes and nose.
  4. Cut strawberries for ears.
  5. Place any extra fruit decoratively around the plate (for this, I used Del Monte Fruit Fusion).

Ice Cream For Breakfast - Easy Food Art For Breakfast - Kids

Ice Cream For Breakfast

What you need:

  1. Waffles, bagels, or bread
  2. A banana
  3. Strawberries
  4. A nice, cold glass of Great Value milk. Milk is naturally nutrient rich and powers potential – if you have access to it. Milk’s 9 essential nutrients, including 8 grams of high-quality protein per 8 ounce serving, can help to ensure that kids have the potential to play, learn and grow.

What to do:

  1. Cut your waffle (or bagel or bread) into triangles and put it on a plate.
  2. Chop up your banana and strategically place them above the waffle.
  3. Cut the tip of a strawberry and place it on the very top!

Banana Tree - Easy Food Art For Breakfast - Kids

Banana Tree

This one makes a great morning snack!

What you need:

  1. A banana
  2. An avocado

What to do:

  1. Cut little chunks out of the banana (like pictured) to create a palm tree texture.
  2. Cut up your avocado and place it above the banana!

Join Feeding America in The Great American Milk Drive to help deliver highly desired and nutrient-rich gallons of milk to hungry children and families who need it most. More than 14 million servings of milk have been delivered to food banks through this first-of-its-kind initiative.
