Brooklynn & Harlym’s Shared Bedroom Refresh

February 9, 2019

Now that we’re settling into our new home, I’ve finally gotten around to sharing the girls’ shared bedroom refresh! Brooklynn and Harlym have shared a room for over a year now, and we have found that bunk beds work best for our living space and arrangements. When we moved last week, there was the option to give them their own rooms, but we ultimately decided that it would be better for them to stay in a shared space. Our main reasoning was that I wanted to have a playroom where we could keep all their toys and that their rooms would be beds and books only.

We’re still waiting on their wallpaper and rug to arrive (I will share more pictures once it does)! But what pulls the entire room together is Dorel Living’s Bertha Twin over Twin Bunk Bed. It is small and slim enough that is leaves plenty of room for jumping and playing around. It’s the perfect size for their ages – 4 and 5. I also love that it easily converts into two twin beds, so should we ever change our minds about them sharing a room – we don’t have to buy new beds!

I got their acrylic bookshelves from Amazon and they hold 5-8 books. I let the girls choose which books they want by their bed so that they’re constantly interested in reading. I’ve walked in several times already to them reading on their beds and it makes me so happy!

And because I know people will ask about this… The bunk bed is not tall at all. Their last bunk bed was so high up that I had to get on my tippy-toes to kiss them goodnight! But I love feeling comfortable about whoever is sleeping on the top bunk (they usually fight about it) and knowing that the ladder is super easy to climb up and down. Plus, my kids are clumsy as heck so having the beds lower to the ground gives me a lot of peace of mind.

Love these! My boys are too young for bunk beds now, but I think I want them to share a room when they’re older and slim bunk beds like this are on my list. I love that it’s not too tall – one less thing to worry about!
